"Pump the gas and fire up the Dodge Dart 1968 engine
Swedish nitro running through your veins
Flashlights and shivers in your spine
Hit the road with a Motorpsycho
The Devil built the hot rod for you."

The Background Story

Garage rock, sometimes referred to as Proto-Punk, was birthed and took speed in the United States and Canada between 1963 and 1968 thanks to hundreds of eccentric and energetic youngsters influenced by the Beatles, other British beat bands, and surf rock. Many acts delivered regional hits usually played on AM radio stations. This music subgenre is distinguished by basic chord structures, intense and aggressive lyrics, and distorted sound.

During the 1990’s and early 2000’s, a second wave revival of garage rock emerged with commercial success, predominantly in Scandinavia, led by the Swedish band The Hellacopters, who took their influence from MC5, New York Dolls, Roky Erickson, KISS, Alice Cooper, and Motorhead. With the Hellacopters serving as a powerful impetus, soon thereafter followed the formation of a plethora of related bands within the Swedish rock music scene, such as Supershit 666, Dundertåget, The Dontcares, and The Accidents, all of whom helped shape the Swedish rock soundscape for the decades to come.

The fine prints

This beer is a tribute to the second wave of Swedish garage rock comprised by bands such as The Hellacopters, Supershit 666, The Nomads, Puffball, The Accidents, The Deadbeats, The Sewergrooves, and more, and record labels like the iconic White Jazz Records (RIP), Frank Records (RIP), Bootleg Booze Records, and Burning Heart Records, all of which released stylish, artistic, and thoughtful albums by many great Swedish bands.

The name of this brew is after the song “Motorpsycho” from the album “Six Pack To Go!” [1997] by Puffball.

The label features the illustration of the Dodge Dart 1968 owned by Jakob Johansson, former drummer of Tribulation. The label’s art, from the font to colour scheme, content, and layout were heavily influenced, just as many great bands before, by the early artwork of the Hellacopters, designed by the band’s founder, vocalist, and guitarist, Nicke Andersson - raw, youthful, vibrant, and caricatured.

”Hey boy, you understand, say your prayers or you’ll be damned!” –The Hellacopters
